OPTIMIZATION OF ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT WRITING ABILITY THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING

Abstract


ABSTRACT Mastering writing skills is one of the most difficult things for students. This causes the low achievement of the students in mastering writing skills, especially writing Analytical Exposition text as an argumentative essay that needs creativity and higher order thinking skills as a necessity in the 21st-century learning. In order to overcome the problem, a three-cycle Classroom Action Research was designed by applying Problem-Based Learning that answered the research question: Can students' Analytical Exposition writing skills be improved by applying Problem-Based Learning? The research sample consisted of 30 students of XI-IPA2 of 2020/2021 academic year of Senior High School 8 Banda Aceh. In order to collect data, an essay test and observation sheet were administered as research instruments. The data were analyzed descriptively quantitative and qualitative. It was found that the application of Problem-Based Learning was able to improve students' Analytical Exposition as an argumentative essay writing skill.
