Abstract


ABSTRACT This study is based on the low achievement of students in speaking English especially in describing historical places. The purpose of the study is to optimize the students’ speaking skills by applying Project-Based Learning. This study is experimental research conducted at SMA Negeri 8 Banda Aceh in Social Science class (X IPS 1) in 2019/2020 academic year. The data for this study is collected by using a scoring rubric for speaking and video designing. In addition, an observation sheet was used to investigate the students’ participation during their investigation of historical places. The research finding shows that the students’ speaking skills and participation improve after they learn by using Project-Based Learning (PJBL). Key Words: Teaching Speaking, Project-Based Learning
